Best known for his sentimental novel The Man of Feeling, Henry Mackenzie (1745-1831) contributed to Scott's Edinburgh Annual Register and was a fellow trustee of Edinburgh's Theatre Royal. The original portrait by Colvin Smith was painted in 1828.
