The scene illustrates canto VI, stanza XXXII, lines 28-29 of Marmion:

'Charge, Chester, charge! On, Stanley, on!
Were the last words of Marmion.'

It depicts the dying Marmion at Flodden Field, attended by Clara de Clare and a monk.
