(Glasgow: Blackie & Son,
1837)
Robinson's engraving is derived from a signed
replica of Sir John Watson Gordon's unfinished
portrait of Sir
Walter Scott. The replica was probably commissioned by Blackie
& Son specifically so that it might be engraved. Scott's clothes
are adumbrated in grey in the original portrait, but in the replica
his coat is dark, waistcoat yellowish, and neckcloth black. The engraver
(or an unidentified intermediary artist) has added a chair, bookshelves,
curtains, and an urn given to Scott by Byron. |
