Sir Walter Scott,
photogravure of a signed replica of the 1830 portrait by Sir
John Watson Gordon
Frontispiece to: The History
of the Speculative Society (Edinburgh: [The Society],
1905)
Watson Gordon painted this replica of his 1830
portrait of Sir Walter Scott for the Speculative Society
in 1835. The main difference is that Scott's dog Bran is moved
from his right to his left. Photo-engraving involved transferring
a photographic negative of a drawing, painting,
or object to
a metal plate, and
then etching it in. |
