Corson A.2.a.1822/17

Sir Walter Scott, engraved by William Thomas Fry after Sir Henry Raeburn (1821)

Fry's engraving, which derives from Raeburn's 1808 portrait of Scott, was first published by Archibald Constable, Edinburgh, 1821. Raeburn's painting is reduced to a waist-length portrait with a conventional backdrop. The above print is the frontispiece to vol. I of the The Poetical Works of Sir Walter Scott, Bart. (Constable, 1822).
