Corson P. 7348

Sir Walter Scott, engraved by John Roffe after Sir Henry Raeburn (1826)

Roffe's engraving, which derives from Raeburn's 1808 portrait of Scott, was first published in The Mirror of Literature, 1826. A head-size reduction, it is based on an 1810 mezzotint by Charles Turner and an 1821 engraving by J.R. West (itself derived from Henry Meyer's 1818 engraving). The above print was published in J. Tillotson's Lives of Eminent Men, or Biographical Treasury (London: Thomas Holmes, 1854) (facing p.173).
